According to the KPC Consortium, artificial intelligence could enable a single person to build a billion-dollar company.

Kevin Kyu Hwang Yeon, Project Manager of the KPC Consortium Senegal, believes that breakthroughs in artificial intelligence could enable a single individual to build the next Senegalese firm worth more than $1 billion.

Speaking at a press conference in Dakar on Wednesday ahead of the K-Senegal AI Startup Summit 2026, which is scheduled for June 18-19, the South Korean expert stated that artificial intelligence is creating opportunities for a new generation of entrepreneurs capable of building high-value businesses with few human resources.

« If you have the right AI skills and an innovative idea, you have the opportunity to become a solo unicorn, » he said, referring to firms worth more than $1 billion that are led by a single founder.

According to Hwang Yeon, artificial intelligence is radically altering traditional company models by allowing entrepreneurs to complete activities that used to need big teams.

« Artificial intelligence can perform a major amount of the tasks required to build a corporation. « A single entrepreneur can now create significant value through mastery of these technologies, » he stated.

He highlighted the AI revolution as a strategic opportunity for Senegal, where a substantial proportion of the population is young and increasingly plugged into digital technologies.

According to Hwang Yeon, the key to unlocking this potential is the large-scale growth of digital skills and experience in AI.

Since its arrival in Senegal in 2021, the KPC Consortium, which is mandated by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), claims to have supported approximately 1,000 entrepreneurs through six programs focusing on innovation, entrepreneurship, and startup acceleration.

The programs were executed in collaboration with Senegal’s Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation.

« We are creating a holistic entrepreneurial ecosystem that includes everything from idea development to support for growing firms. « This is what we call a virtuous cycle, » Hwang Yeon explained.

The K-Senegal AI Startup Summit 2026 will bring together South Korean artificial intelligence firms with Senegalese innovators in Dakar. The program includes startup pitch sessions, technological demonstrations, business networking events, and exhibition areas designed to stimulate collaboration and knowledge transfer.

The summit is part of Senegal and South Korea’s greater technology partnership, which includes plans to create an artificial intelligence center in Diamniadio.

While conceding that Senegal lags behind certain leading economies in certain areas of the global digital sector, Hwang Yeon believes the country has a huge advantage: an ambitious and youthful populace capable of converting technology gaps into competitive opportunities.

« Artificial intelligence is already changing economies, industries, and how wealth is created. Those who enter the field too late risk falling behind. « Now is the time to invest in skills and innovation, » he explained.

The summit’s organisers hope to illustrate that artificial intelligence is more than just a future technology, but also a practical tool for value creation capable of cultivating a new generation of African entrepreneurs capable of competing on a global scale.
